I believe in transparency. Voters have a right to know who's funding a candidate before they cast their ballot. Making this information public before Election Day isn’t the norm, but it should be.

The City of Greater Sudbury already publishes this information of donors above $100 from all political campaigns after the election, but my campaign is going above the minimum standard for transparency by disclosing our donors before voters head to the polls.

I will not accept donations from developers.

Since 2010, over 30% of disclosed donations to municipal candidates in Greater Sudbury are connected to the development industry.

Municipal governments in Ontario make important decisions about bylaw enforcement, height limits, requirements for affordable housing, and other zoning restrictions. A developer may want to change these rules for their benefit, even if it runs counter to the public interest.

While candidates are within their rights to receive a donation from a real estate developer under the Municipal Elections Act, the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, and  the Municipal Code of Conduct, I have always believed the best way to maintain full independence is to stay clear of the potential influence that money has over an elected official. Therefore, I’m not accepting developer donations.
